The 1992 Constitution of Ghana gives citizens who have attained 18 years and above the right to vote. This for me is a golden opportunity to ensure good governance. Unfortunately, majority of our voters vote wrongly hence very bad governance.
Anytime we go to queue in the sun and in the rain to vote, we are helping an individual to get job, to get V8, to get a mansion, to enjoy big time allowances among others. They enjoy all these with their families only. Their children attend big time schools, most of the time outside Ghana. These politicians dont pay tax, they don’t buy fuel, they are never caught in traffic. The saddest part is that the small development that must hit our communities are not coming. Look at your roads, your schools, your drainage systems, prices of items in the market, consider fuel prices. Don’t forget your joblessness and many more.
We know all these but we still do the same old voting. I see it as complete madness if people in the Ashanti Region always vote for the NPP because they are Ashantis. Why should it be so? If the New Patriotic Party comes and governs well, yes! you have every right to give them your vote.
Former President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC did better than the NPP in the Ashanti Region, yet that region is still routing for Akufo Addo and the NPP. When this happens, why won’t politicians take us for granted. We are not voting according to good conscience. They call it their world bank. Whether good or bad, world bank. They are only telling the Ashanti Region that they have no good conscience.
The same should be said about the Volta Region. Why should voltarians vote for NDC because they are voltarians. If the National Democratic Congress has done well for the volta region, then the people have every right to vote massively for them.
Let’s change our attitude towards the way we vote. Let’s vote with good conscience and there will be a turning around in Ghana. We should note vote because of 50 cedis, because of a bag of rice, sugar, a bottle of oil and all that.
It should be a thing of the past.
