The commission for human rights and administrative justice (GHRAJ) has been petitioned to investigate the chief executive officer of the komfo Anokye teaching hospital in Kumasi for alleged misapplication of Covid-19 funds.
A chattered forensic accountant at the hospital Mr Awuni Akyereba said, he has evidence to prove that two new Toyota Camry vehicles that recently bought for the C.E.O Dr Oheneba Owusu Danso and the medical director, Professor Baafour Kofi Opoku at a total cost of hundred and sixteen thousand dollars ($1,16000) were allegedly procured with Covid-19 funds
He is also asking Chraj to probe the medical director for abuse of public office for allowing his wife to drive and crash one of the new vehicles
According to Mr Akyereba, the management took the decisions at the time when the hospital was in deep economic crisis.
“We were told on the performance review by the chief executive that all directorate of the hospital has incurred accumulative losses of about Ghs 6.2 million. And if we were on such a difficulty, where did else did they get the money to buy those vehicles if not the covid-19 funds”.
“I am putting my head on the chopping board. They can chop them for this. The medical director gave one of the official vehicles to his wife and she got accident with it. This action constitutes abuse of public office and betrayal of public trust”.
