Thiago Silva’s contract with Chelsea has been extended for another year, till the end of the 2022/23 season.
Thiago Emiliano da Silva, a 37-year-old Brazilian professional player, joined Chelsea on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2020, and he and his family have become a fan favorite at Stamford Bridge under previous manager Frank Lampard.
This season, he has appeared in 22 games for Thomas Tuchel’s side, scoring two goals and assisted on two more. However, since joining the club, he has made 56 appearances.
Thiago has extended his stay at the club for another year, according to an official announcement published on the club’s official website on Monday, January 3rd, 2022.
Thiago Silva’s new contract will last until the end of the 2022/23 season, at which time he will be expecting to represent Brazil at the World Cup in Qatar after remaining a regular for the Selecao in qualifying.
Following the news that Thiago Silva’s contract has been extended for another year, Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea’s director, stated that the defender’s leadership and performances have been and continue to be very important to the squad, and that the club is delighted he has decided to stay for another year.
‘Thiago Silva’s experience, leadership and performances have been and remain very important to this squad, so we are hugely pleased to extend his contract by another year.
‘We look forward to his continued influence as we seek honours this season and next, and more of the qualities that have led to him having such a big impact for us on and off the pitch.’ Marina Granovskaia said.
Thiago Emiliano da Silva, who is delighted to have his contract with Chelsea extended, expressed his delight at the prospect of staying with the club for another season.
He has expressed his thanks to the club, which he regards to as his family, as well as Marina and Mr Abramovich, for the opportunity, and has promised to give his all for the club and the fans who have always been on his side since his return in 2020.
