Barcelona outperformed Madrid in numerous moments – Xavi

The 3-2 win by Real Madrid over Barcelona on Wednesday night was not without its thrills and spills.

The Blaugrana, who are 17 points behind LaLiga leaders, came back twice in the Supercopa de Espana semi-finals to send their opponents to extra time.

Barcelona came from behind twice to draw level with Real Madrid before Federico Valverde scored the game-winning goal on the counterattack in the 98th minute.

Both Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema put Madrid up in the 25th and 72nd minutes, respectively, but Luuk de Jong’s 41st minute and Ansu Fati’s 83rd minute goals forced the game into extra time.

Real Madrid’s 3-2 Clasico victory on Wednesday night was their fifth in a row, but Xavi’s side were far from outclassed, demonstrating that there is immense promise for the future at the club.

Despite losing to Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final on Wednesday, Xavi Hernandez said his young Barcelona team could depart with their “heads held high.”

“It was evident that it was a day when we displayed bravery and took ownership of the ball.

“Despite the loss, today was a day to walk out with your head held high,” Xavi remarked.

He went on to say, “We were superior to Madrid in several situations.”

“It’s two separate emotions,” she says. We have a really awful sensation of defeat, but we can also be quite pleased of the game. “A bit more patience is required.” Xavi remarked.

Carlo Ancelotti, the coach of Real Madrid, was thrilled with his team’s ruthlessness on the break.

“It was a level game; they had more possession, we had more counter-attacks,” Ancelotti stated.

Barcelona are getting closer to being a club that can compete for titles again, according to Gerard Pique.

“I think if we keep playing like this, we’ll start winning and challenging for a lot more titles,” Pique remarked.

Real Madrid will face either Atletico Madrid or Athletic Bilbao in the final on Sunday, thanks to Fede Valverde’s winner in the second semi-final on Thursday.
