Bawumia is a problem-solving guru. – AfDB Ex- President

Donald P. Kabenuka, a former president of the African Development Bank, has praised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his significant contributions to the bank’s success and influence on the African continent.

Dr. Bawumia worked as a Resident Representative for Zimbabwe for the African Development Bank over a decade ago, overseeing the restructuring of the country’s faltering currency and economic crises.

Donald P. Kabenuka, who is in Ghana for the launch of the Pan-African Payment System, the man who oversaw Dr Bawumia’s appointment to that challenging position, has given an insight into why Dr Bawumia was appointed to that position, as well as the excellent work he did for the African Development Bank.

Dr Bawumia was described as a man of “highly developed technical skills with a very good political insight” by the former President of the African Development Bank, who spoke at a ceremony last night to mark the launch of the Pan African Payment System. He also paid glowing tributes to his work, both for the African Development Bank and for Ghana as Vice President.

“I’m not going to compliment my brother here since he despises it.” But I recall his arriving from Oxford when he joined us. “When I met with him, I realized he was a young man with enormous potential to help me solve one of the most pressing challenges I was facing in one of the countries,” stated the former African Development Bank President.

Donald P. Kabenuka stated, “I required someone with a combination of highly developed technical skills, extremely excellent political understanding, and a sense of where one might sense things strategically, and I appointed Bawumia to that position.”

‘The African Development Bank and I have made a lot of progress. I had the honor of leading the institution ten years ago, but only with Dr. Bawumia’s help. Thank you for your work at the African Development Bank, Sir.”

Despite his initial reluctance, the former director of the Africa Development Bank stated that, given the work Dr Bawumia has done for Ghana as Vice President, he does not regret letting Bawumia leave the job.

‘I assure you, he did not let you down.’ I was hesitant when he said he was moving on to pursue what he is doing now. But now that I’ve seen what you’ve done for your country, I believe we made the correct decision in allowing you to leave.”
