The Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin, and his office have been stripped of military protection by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
To protect the safety of the country’s Speaker of Parliament, who is one of the most influential people in the country, the Speaker’s office has four military soldiers and various security elements.
The four troops are ordered to return to base by January 14, 2022, “while steps are made to regularize their attachment,” according to a letter written by Major General Nicholas Peter Andoh, Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters of the GAF, dated January 11, 2022.
The soldiers were attached to the Speaker’s office without following the established protocols, according to the GAF.
