Juaben residents beg Akufo-Addo for MCE

Some people in the Juaben municipality have petitioned President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to nominate a new Municipal Chief Executive for the area.

After the president’s nomination, Alex Safo Kantanka, was twice rejected by assembly members, the assembly now lacks a chief executive.

Alex Safo Kantanka received five votes out of a total of 26 in the first election. After the President re-nominated him, the election was postponed again for various reasons.

In the second election, the nominee received only ten votes out of a total of 26, with one ballot being rejected.

The President’s nominee for Juaben was later implicated in a bribery and corruption scandal after being caught on film soliciting money from several assembly members in exchange for their votes.

Some locals are concerned that the growth of the area would be slowed without an MCE to oversee the municipality’s administration.

“It is becoming a source of concern for us, so we are requesting that the government pick someone else.” We don’t have an MCE, and the lack of a leader has hampered development in the area, according to a local.

Assembly member Emmanuel Gallo expressed optimism that President Akufo-Addo will soon name a new candidate for the position.

“I’m confident that whatever has transpired in the past will lead the president to go to the people and do what they want.”

“We need someone who will lead the assembly forward, who is development-focused, people-oriented, and determined to change the current quo,” said Prince Oppong Kyekyeku, another assembly member.

Meanwhile, Ama Pomaa Boateng, the Member of Parliament for the area, has stated that while Ashanti Region Minister Simon Osei-Mensah has been appointed interim MCE, his busy activities make it difficult for him to completely focus on the municipality.

“My work is still going on, but it’s the administration that’s getting in the way.” Every decision must be made by the regional minister, so when he is ready, you will be a top priority. We are hopeful that the new year will bring us an MCE, and I know the regional minister and president are talking about it,” she remarked.
