Police on heels of pastor who set woman ablaze and bolted with GH¢40,000

Pastor Kenneth Mensah of the Mega Word Chapel International in Asankragwa has been placed on the police’s wanted list for alleged burning and theft of GH40,000 belonging to a member of his church.

According to reports, the pastor, also known as Obrempong, fled with the money after setting the congregant on fire as she slept.

It went on to say that the deceased, Rosemond Amoafo, was planning to fly to the United Kingdom.

The victim’s pastor, who is supposed to be a family acquaintance, was apparently told of the victim’s vacation intentions.

Obrempong had been paying frequent visits to the victim’s residence prior to the event, according to the report.

“The victim’s pastor is claimed to have instructed her to bring the specified amount for prayers in order to spiritually prepare her for the trip,” according to the report.

The victim, though, is said to have survived the fire.

According to a police report, the victim’s family had developed trust in the pastor since he had gone to school with their senior brother.

“An eyewitness who is also the victim’s daughter, Ms Joana Asare, said Pastor Mensah had first visited the family around three months ago and has since been a friend to the family and deeply connected with the victim,” she said.

“She claimed that Pastor Mensah was a junior in high school and that following the first visit, the pastor became close to the victim.” The victim had just returned from Dubai and was planning a trip to the United Kingdom. According to the article, she told the pastor about it.

Joana told the police that the GH40,000 they used to finance the victim’s travel plans came from the proceeds of the sale of a family land.

“When the pastor learned about the GH40,000, he allegedly told the victim that her senior sister was a witch, and that she needed some spiritual intervention on the money and her pending travel plans, or things would not go well for her in the UK.”

“The Pastor spent the night at the victim’s residence in Kwesibokro, a suburb of Asankrangwa, as part of arrangements to complete the spiritual cleaning,” according to the article.

Rosemond is claimed to have slept after the pastor gave her some concoction to drink after he requested her to say a few things over the money.

“Pastor Mensah allegedly stole the 40,000, shut the door, and burned the home on fire before fleeing.

“When reached, Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Nana Kuma Kumi confirmed the event and stated that the preacher is on the run,” according to the report.
