Avian Influenza hits Sekondi Takoradi

An outbreak of Avian Influenza has been confirmed by the Western Regional Health Service in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality.

The matter was brought to light, according to the Regional Health Service, when veterinary inspectors in the municipality confirmed the illness in two chicken farms in two districts.

The Deputy Regional Health Director said in a letter dated January 18, 2022 that all of the birds in the two farms had been destroyed and preliminary disinfections had begun.

“You are requested by this letter to bring this to the notice of all health personnel to look out for signs and symptoms of Avian Influenza because it is very infectious and can be fatal in people,” according to a portion of the letter obtained by Starrfm.com.
