Two people were killed and eight others were injured in the Bawku Municipality in the Upper East Region.
The attack happened about 4:00 p.m. on Sunday in Daduri, a suburb of Bawku, when some unknown people attacked and shot at some people who were dealing CFA Francs.
According to reports, two people were killed in the event.
Two of the eight people injured in the attack were sent to the Tamale teaching hospital for treatment, while the other six were taken to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital and the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital for treatment.
Since December 27, 2021, when attempts to perform the final funeral rituals of a Chief who died roughly 41 years before resulted in gunshots in areas of the town, insecurity has been a major problem in Bawku.
A curfew was imposed on the entire township, as well as a prohibition on the wearing of smocks, as a result of the violence.
Male pillion riders were likewise prohibited from riding.
Following the disturbance, thirteen people were arrested and evacuated to Accra.
The event also resulted in increased security deployment in the municipality’s villages.
