Immigration officer, 3 policemen interdicted for stealing from illegal miners

Three security officials were arrested in November of last year for stealing during an operation to combat illegal mining.

On November 29, 2021, at Koundanlgou in the Savannah Region, police apprehended four suspects: Assistant Inspector of Immigration Joseph Awuku Kumi, 39; Constable Christian Appiah Junior, 24; G/Constable Augustine Apraku, 28; and G/Constable Richmond Owusu Ansah, 30.

According to Myjoyonline, the suspects have been placed under administrative interdiction by the Savannah Regional Command following preliminary investigations.

They were apprehended during an operation for allegedly stealing from illegal miners.

According to the police, a total of GH4,135 was discovered on Constable who, along with his companions, raided an illegal mining site.

Constable Augustine Apraku and Constable Richmond Owusu were also able to retrieve some illegal miners’ smartphones.

On the other side, Assistant Inspector of Immigration Joseph Awuku Kumi was discovered in possession of $10,880.

The suspects have been taken into jail by Savannah Regional Police, and the exhibits have been kept for further investigation.
