The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has announced that it is hiring butchers for its new abattoir in Yorogo
Butchers at the Region’s old abattoir refused to go, claiming that yorogo was too far away from town and that the Assembly had not contacted them before deciding to remove them.
Butchers have since gone on an extended strike, making it difficult to get meat in the Upper East regional capital.
They have stated that they will only agree to relocate to Yorogo if the animal market is also moved there.
However, the Assembly revealed in a letter dated January 21, 2022 that it is hiring butchers for the yorogo abattoir.
This is to compensate for butchers who are on strike and to reopen the facility, as the butchers occupying the previous abattoir have chosen to ignore attempts to evict them from the facility, which has structural flaws and unfavorable environmental conditions.
According to the Assembly, applications must be filed by Friday, January 28, 2022.
