The Black Stars spent three weeks in Qatar, where the 2022 World Cup will be held later this year, before heading to Cameroon for the Afcon but performed poorly and for the first time since 2006, departed the Afcon at the group stage.

The Minister, who was speaking on the floor of parliament after the team’s performance in Cameroon, said that one of the reasons they were in Doha was to host the World Cup.

“The ministry and the GFA agreed to camp in Doha because the Black Stars have the opportunity to qualify for the World Cup and we are going to play Nigeria.

“If we get the opportunity to qualify then it’s only important the players acclimatize.”

In late March, Ghana will play Nigeria in a two-legged contest, with the winner qualifying for the World Cup.
