Police kills four suspected armed robbers, one arrested

On Saturday, January 22, a combined squad of the Ghana Police Service’s Anti-Robbery Section and Intelligence and Surveillance unit shot and killed four persons suspected of being armed robbers in an intelligence-led operation.

According to a police statement, the four were accused of being part of a robbery network that allegedly snatched a Toyota Rav 4 car from a victim with the intention of selling it the same day in Accra.

The suspects were tracked down to a thicket near Afienya in Tema, where they were detained and the stolen vehicle found.

According to a statement issued on the police department’s Facebook page, “four of the offenders forcefully challenged a Police Captain during the arrest, and they were shot in the procedure.”

According to accounts, the four shooting suspects were taken to the Police Hospital but died while undergoing treatment.

These remains have now been preserved  at the hospital’s mortuary for safekeeping.

Meanwhile, the individual captured is in custody and cooperating with the inquiry, while the person on the run is being followed by the Tema Regional Police Command.
“The Police will keep fighting crime in order to keep the country secure and peaceful,” said the law enforcement body.
