Residents are cautioned not to make mobile phone calls on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, by a group of 22 Ghanaians, including Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, and Ras Mubarak, former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu.
The petition is in response to “the circus around the SIM card re-registration activities,” as they put it.
They claim that the practice should be phased out because there is no law forcing mobile network subscribers to “Re-register” their SIM cards.
“Following the National Communications Authority’s (NCA) and Mobile Network Operators’ (MNOs) failure to address concerns about the legality and chaos of the Sim-Reregistration Exercise, we, the undersigned Concerned Mobile Network Subscribers, and the over 7000 online petitioners, call on our fellow citizens to join our campaign for a #NoCallsDay boycott of the MNOs on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.”
The government, on the other hand, has stated that failure to comply with the new need to re-register SIM cards will result in the loss of numbers.
