Sarkodie finally react to the E-Levy Tax debate

Feb 8, 2022 ,

Sarkodie, a multi-award-winning Ghanaian rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur, has finally spoken out against the e-levy tax controversy.

As many of you are aware, the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) Tax has been the hottest topic in Ghana for some time now, ever since the ruling NPP suggested it.

Ghana’s Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Attah, introduced the E-levy bill a few months ago, and it has sparked outrage across the country, with many people unhappy with the government’s choice to tax transactions.

If this measure is passed, every Ghanaian who uses mobile money will be taxed 1.7 percent of the amount utilized for the transaction if it exceeds GHS 100.

Sarkodie, the BET award-winning Ghanaian rapper and Sarkcess Music CEO, who was born with the legal name Michael Owusu Addo and has been silent since the tax was introduced, has finally reacted to it for the first time.

Sarkodie was contacted by a Twitter user with the handle @TsaatseB, who wanted to know what his thoughts were on the recently announced trendy and controversial tax, as many of his colleagues in the entertainment fraternity and music industry had reacted to it.

“@sarkodie,” he tweeted. Please let me know what you think about the E-Levy; you’ve been quiet about it, but your paddies are ooo”.

The Sarkcess music mogul modestly reacted to his question by sharing his thoughts on the subject with the world.

Sarkodie, in response to the query, stated that he pays a lot of tax when he travels outside of Ghana and that he does not complain because he makes money from channels created or made available by the taxes collected.

Speaking on the subject, he stated that while taxation is not a bad thing, describing it as innocuous, it is not the same down here in Ghana, and that is why Ghanaians are opposed to it, given the conditions and problems that people face.

Sarkodie penned the text.

“I pay a lot of taxes outside and I don’t complain because I’m using avenues they made available to make 💰( it’s only right ) it’s not same here and that’s why we complain not because the “E Levy” is bad . When you broke, a harmless “good morning “ can sound like a tease
