Johnson Asiedu Nketia, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, has declared that every politician’s dream is to hold the highest office in the land.
He informed TV3’s Johnnie Hughes in an interview on February 7, 2022, that he would make concrete announcements when the time was appropriate, without explicitly outlining his political intentions, whether at the party or national level.
When asked about the party’s future elections, he stated, “We are not there yet, we haven’t opened nominations.” He won’t say whether he’ll run for another term as General Secretary or run for Chairman.
When asked about his presidential ambitions, he responded similarly before adding, “If you are a politician, you always aim to occupy the highest office of the land.”
“So, if you ask me as a politician if I want to occupy the highest post in the land, I will say absolutely,” he continued.
Despite the fact that his work as NDC scribe for over a decade has been his most publicized political role, Asiedu Nketia, also known as ‘General Mosquito,’ was a three-time Member of Parliament for Wenchi West from 1993 to 2005, when he began his career as NDC scribe.
Under the Jerry John Rawlings government, he also held the deputy ministerial portfolio of Food and Agriculture.
