GFA appoints Otto Addo as Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton as technical director

Former Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has been named as a Technical Advisor to Otto Addo’s newly established Black Stars Technical team.

The new technical team has been put together just for the World Cup play-off games against Nigeria.

The new Technical staff also includes George Boateng and Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

The 63-year-old former Republic of Ireland international will provide advice to the three-man squad that will face Nigeria in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off match next month.

The decision was decided by the Ghana Football Association’s Executive Council at a meeting held in Accra on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Former Ghanaian player Otto Addo is currently the Assistant Coach of Borussia Dortmund in the German Bundesliga. He has been coaching since 2009, when he was hired as an Assistant Coach at Hamburger University.

In 2013, the 46-year-old worked as a scout for the Black Stars before the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

The four-man team has been put together to oversee the two games against Nigerian opponents. On March 24, 2022, the Black Stars will face the Super Eagles in the Cape Coast stadium before returning to Nigeria for the second leg on March 27, 2022, at the Abuja Sports stadium.
