Five officers are in critical condition after a near-fatal accident involving the Kwame Danso Ghana National Fire Services’ fire truck.
The incident happened at about 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday on a part of the Kwame-Danso Atebubu route, when the fire truck was responding to an incident at Atebubu with the five officers onboard, according to the Ghana National Fire Service.
“A motorbike rider carelessly crossed the Fire Truck, resulting in a near-fatal catastrophe.” The Fire Truck then lost its balance and somersaulted three times on the highway, landing on its roof in a neighboring bush, in an attempt to avoid hitting and killing the motorbike rider. The Fire Truck was substantially damaged,” said a statement on the service’s Facebook page, explaining the cause of the collision.
The officers who survived the collision were transferred to the Atebubu Government Hospital, according to reports.
Four of the five officers involved in the accident have been transported to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital in critical condition, while the fifth officer is claimed to be responding to treatment at the Atebubu Government Hospital.
“Techiman Holy Family Hospital has been referred to four of the badly injured Crew members.” According to the statement, “the other Crew Member is responding well to treatment at the Atebubu Government Hospital.”
