Ghanaian football has experienced yet another setback after it was discovered that all four African Cup of Nations trophies had vanished.
Angel FM in Accra reported this on their Wednesday evening sports show. They noted that the Ghana Football Association’s offices do not have any of the Black Stars’ significant trophies.
Ghana is the first African country to win a major event four times: in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982.
The show’s host, Saddick Adams ‘Obama,’ claimed that one of the officers at the National Sports Authority told him in 2019 that the trophies were lost when their offices were raided during the coup d’etat era.
The Black Stars have not won the trophy since 1982, when they defeated Libya on penalties to win it for the first time. They did, however, make it to the finals in 1992, 2010 and 2015, albeit at the tail end of the competition in each case.
