Meteo Agency staff to meet Labour Minister today over conditions of service

The Ghana Meteorological Division of the Trades Union Congress’s Public Services Workers Union is due to meet with the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations to discuss concerns that led to a strike last Friday.

On Friday, February 18, the union went on strike to seek better working conditions. After a discussion with their management and the Ministry of Communications, they decided to call off the strike.

The union plans to continue talks with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in order to completely resolve all of the concerns voiced.

Papa Nii Clegg, the Chairman of the Divisional Union, in an interview with citi news indicated that their working conditions aren’t ideal, which is why they’re calling for changes.

The enumerated needs, particularly the temporary arrangements, should be handled. Our service conditions are deplorable, thus we expect the points listed 6to change at the negotiating table. “Something drastic needs to be done,” he suggested.

On Thursday, February 17, 2022, the Agency’s workers’ union requested that all of its members nationwide lay down their tools in order to demand better working conditions.

“Among the grounds for the strike were nonpayment of some allowances and insufficient infrastructure, among other things.

On a daily basis, the Ghana Meteorological Agency is responsible for delivering weather information.

It also keeps a meteorological eye on the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority’s Flight Information Region (FIR).

The agency’s meteorological data is used in a variety of industries, including agriculture, industry, civil engineering, forestry, dam management, and tourism, among others.
