Zakaria Alhassan, a 45-year-old man, has been detained in police custody for allegedly murdering his mother over a lost GH100.
The incident occurred at Sooba, a village in the North East Region’s West Mamprusi Municipality.
When his 71-year-old mother sought to intercede in an altercation he was having with his brothers, in which Alhassan accused them of taking his GH100, the man was reported to have shot her.
DSP Cosmos Awe, the West Mamprusi Municipal police chief, told Citi News that the matter is still being investigated.
“He has been detained and is being held on remand.” He went out, and when he returned, he reported his GH100 gone. It escalated into a fight with his family, and he pulled out a revolver and shot his mother in the back from the right hip, piercing her back. The investigation into what prompted him to act in this manner is still ongoing.”
