Upper East: Robbery suspect shot dead at Nyariga Forest – Police

A suspected robber was shot and killed by Ghana Police Service personnel in the Upper East Region after a gunfight near Bolgatanga’s Nyariga Forest.

The suspected robbers, three in number, were engaged in a shootout by police officers on patrol when intelligence revealed that the bandits were hitting market women from the Nyariga market.

However, it was revealed that two of the alleged thieves involved in the gunfight managed to flee.

“The criminals got into a shootout with the cops, and one of them was killed, but the other two managed to flee.” The injured suspect was brought to the Regional Hospital for treatment, but the medical officer pronounced him dead upon arrival. In the meantime, his body has been preserved at the Regional Hospital Morgue.

“Among the items recovered from him (the deceased suspect) is a pump-action gun with serial number MVS4951A that was loaded with five (5) rounds of BB cartridge ammo. A rucksack carrying eleven rounds of the same BB cartridge ammo was also recovered from the site, according to a statement on the Police Department’s Facebook page.

The Nyariga community and its environs were also requested to aid furnish information that would lead to the arrest of the two alleged robbers who managed to flee.
