FIFA and UEFA suspend all Russian clubs and national teams

Russian clubs and national teams have been barred from all FIFA and UEFA tournaments.

According to the International Olympic Committee, Russian and Belarussian athletes and administrators have been banned from all international competitions (IOC).

Russia’s men will not compete in the World Cup play-offs next month, while their women will not compete in the European Championship this summer.

Away from football, Uefa has ended its collaboration with Gazprom, the Russian energy giant.

“Football stands in complete sympathy with all those touched in Ukraine,” FIFA and UEFA declared in a joint statement.

“Both presidents hope for a rapid improvement in the situation in Ukraine, allowing football to once again serve as a tool for human solidarity and peace.”

FIFA and UEFA have agreed to interfere when Russia invaded Ukraine last Thursday, backed by Belarus.
