According to former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Ghanaians may have been unhappy with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government since the expectations he set for them were not reached.
He believes that the then-New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer should have given Ghanaians reason to mistrust his ability to deliver rather than making them overly optimistic.
“People will doubt your ability at any time you are given a duty, but that is the beauty of it. Allow others to constantly mistrust you. People who have high expectations will be disappointed, as is the case with Nana Akufo-Addo. He instilled in people a sense of expectation, and they are disappointed because he has failed to satisfy their realistic expectations. Allowing your adversary to underestimate you is a military technique, he recommended.
He explained how he was able to succeed in many ministries by stating that managing them required teamwork, and that the sector minister and his deputies could not handle the affairs in isolation.
According to him, it is also critical that you, as Minister, establish policy in order for the ministry’s many units and departments to follow it.
“That’s what I was doing as a political leader.” I expected all agencies under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to comply with my directions, which were consistent with the government’s policy as outlined in the NDC’s manifesto. I owe a huge debt of gratitude to those individuals. He revealed that “everyone in the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources assisted.”
