Daytime Emmy Nominations 2022: Beyoncé earns first nod, ‘The Young and the Restless’ tops ‘General Hospital’

The National Academy of Arts and Sciences released the 2022 Daytime Emmy nominations on Thursday, and Beyoncé is one of the first-time nominees.

The singer is up for an award in the original song category for her song “Talks with Mama Tina,” which is featured on Facebook Watch.

With 18, CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” garnered the most Daytime Emmy nominations, followed by ABC’s “General Hospital,” which received 17.

Syndicated programming received the most nominations, with 48 for various program distributors, followed by two broadcasters tied for first place: ABC and CBS, both with 31. (Netflix came in second with 27.)

The Daytime Drama category, which had been diminishing since broadcast networks curtailed serial output, has been restored to five candidates for the first time since 2014.

This is because to Peacock’s “Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem,” which will compete with CBS’s “The Bold and the Beautiful,” NBC’s “Days of Our Lives,” ABC’s “General Hospital,” and “The Young and the Restless” (CBS). This is the first time in the daytime drama category that a series and its spinoff will compete against one other.

In terms of diversity, NATAS states that there are African American nominees in both the lead performance: actor and lead performance: actress categories for the first time since 2012, and that all of the contenders in the most informative talk show category have persons of color as hosts.

This is the first year since the two major television academies agreed to realign numerous categories to focus on genre rather than dayparts as a strategy to divide eligibility between the Primetime (managed by the L.A.-based TV Academy) and Daytime Emmys (handled by the NY-based NATAS).

It’s also the first year since 1979 that the categories for children’s and family programs have been withdrawn from both presentations and moved to a new Children’s & Family Emmy Award competition and ceremony. (The event is scheduled for December.)

Pat Sajak will compete against himself in the game show host category as part of the new arrangement — for both the daytime and primetime versions of his show. He’s up for both the syndicated “Wheel of Fortune” and ABC’s “Celebrity Wheel of Fortune,” which airs at night.

With two more nominations this year, “This Old House” has now surpassed the 100-nomination mark. One of this year’s Lifetime Achievement Awards was previously revealed for the presentation. The show is now in its 43rd season, having first aired in 1979. John Aniston (“Days of Our Lives”), a soap opera icon, was also honored with a lifetime achievement award this year.

MasterClass, Discovery+, and IMDb TV are among the new networks earning their first Daytime Emmy nominations (now renamed Amazon Freevee).

The 49th Annual Daytime Creative Arts & Lifestyle Emmy Awards will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center on June 18, followed by the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on June 24.

The event will be available on Paramount+ for members whose premium accounts include local CBS stations and will air at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. Otherwise, starting the next day, all Paramount+ subscribers will be able to watch the show on demand.
