Terrorists threat: Ghana has been targeted; let’s be vigilant – National Security Minister

In the light of escalating terrorist assaults in the sub-region, Ghana’s National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, has urged Ghanaians to remain watchful.

Terrorist operations, he claims, have been more common in recent years, necessitating the necessity for all residents to pay greater attention to their “personal and community security.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 17, the sector Minister stated that, based on intelligence accessible to his organization, Ghana has become a target for terrorists, necessitating the need for everyone to remain vigilant.

“The Ministry is urging increased vigilance in locations of mass gatherings, particularly at public places of entertainment and prayer, such as churches and mosques,” says the statement. Guards, security equipment, and lighting of the areas surrounding public meetings would all help, but nothing beats individual attentiveness, accepting personal responsibility and looking out for one another.

This plea is being made because there is reason to suspect that terrorists operating in the region have Ghana as a target, and there is a need to beef up security and educate the population to be more vigilant,” the statement reads in part.
